The Lives Of Others

The Lives of Others (2005) if a film by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck that sets place in eastern hemisphere Berlin before the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Initially the film follows an agent of the Stasi, the eastmost German secret police, named Captain Gerd Wiesler. As part of Weisler job, he investigates people that may be a threat to the communistic regime. As the film goes on, the focus isnt just on Weisler as much as it is on playwright Georg Dreyman; whom Weisler is examine for being against the government.
As the film progresses it is revealed that Dreyman is innocent, and it is just a plot of land by Minister Bruno Hempf to get Dreyman arrested so he hind end get to his wife, Christa-Maria Sieland. Dreyman discovers Hempfs plan against him., and turns him from a person who believes in his country to some cardinal who is against his country. Once Weisler realizes that Dreyman is a good man, he becomes sympathetic to Dreyman and Christa, and he slowly began to change his idea on whether he is doing the right thing.
I think this was a keen film, and it reminds me of movies that Ive seen before. This film reminds me of a film that I saw named Utomlyonye Solntsem, that followed a former Red army officer that was alter by the Great Purge.



Both movies show how no one is free from the paranoia that occurs during communist regimes. Citizens during these times were not safe, if you were suspected of point the smallest opposition you were investigated. All it took was one word that hinted opposition to the wrong person and you would be taken c ar of. Though the consequences on a lower floor Stalins regime were more severe than that posed in The Live of Others, the same concept holds true. I think that the manager did a good job portraying the paranoia behind this regime.
